Nanfutsu Yokoso ("南仏へようこそ", literally "Welcome to Provence") is a non-profit association founded in Marseille in 2023 and run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Its mission: to support Japanese residents and travelers in southern France while strengthening cultural ties between France and Japan.
Support, Connect, Share
Based in the Marseille–Provence–South region, the association works to:
- Assist Japanese individuals facing challenges, whether residents, students, expats, or tourists, by offering translation services, practical advice, administrative support, and a compassionate ear.
- Foster cultural exchange through events, workshops, and language classes that bring together lovers of Japanese culture.
- Collaborate with local organizations to co-host Japan-themed activities and community events.
At its heart, Nanfutsu Yokoso is about building a genuine intercultural support network where everyone can contribute based on their skills and interests.
A Grassroots, Human-Centered Initiative
The idea for Nanfutsu Yokoso was born in 2022, sparked by an encounter with a Japanese individual struggling with administrative procedures in Marseille. That experience inspired a vision for a structured, supportive community.
Since then, the association has operated entirely through volunteer efforts, with symbolic membership fees (starting at 2 €) helping to keep it running. It also shares equipment and resources with partner organizations when needed.
